About

The Idea
Letters From Afar was an idea I had while painting one day. I've been an artist for most of my life, and traveling has always been at the top of my bucket list.  Combining my two greatest loves, art and travel, Letters From Afar was set into motion. What better way to learn about the world than by a letter in the mail?
Isabelle
I created Isabelle in admiration of the 19th-century female explorer, Isabella Bird. Isabella was an English explorer, writer, photographer, and naturalist. She traveled the globe from a young age well into her 60s. Isabella was known for her descriptive letters to home telling of her travels.
Destinations
In my letters, I want to educate readers on not only iconic cities but also lesser known areas. For example, one letter might elaborate the magic of Paris - another may dive into the culture of a small Peruvian village. The world is vast and there is something fascinating to learn no matter what! Every destination that Isabelle explores is thoroughly researched before composing the letters to ensure facts are correct.
The Process
Every monthly letter is drawn, painted and written as an original work of art. A typical letter will feature a map of the region accompanied by illustrations and imagery. Next, copies are made onto 100% recycled paper. Eco-friendly materials are an important factor to this business, especially being mail based. Where ever possible, recycled materials are used - including a couple of collectible, vintage stamps tucked away inside the envelope!
About Us
We are a husband and wife team based in Wilmington, NC with our two English Springers. We dream of one day exploring every single place Isabelle visits, but for now, creating these letters is an adventure within itself.
Happy Exploring -
